During the WAAS@65 Conference on July 24, 2025, the World Academy of Art & Science convened a landmark conversation moderated by Carlos Álvarez Pereira, Secretary General of the Club of Rome. The dialogue explored a profound question:
What if our deepest global crisis is not conflict, climate, or inequality—but the way we think?
Lawrence Ford, Founder & CEO of the Conscious Capital Foundation and Fellow of WAAS, offered a compelling vision for how humanity can navigate today’s polycrisis and evolve into a higher state of consciousness.
He emphasized that today’s overlapping crises are not merely threats, but gateways for collective growth.
“The polycrisis is the opportunity of our growth into our future humanity.”
Ford called for a shift from merely doing to embodying a deeper sense of purpose.
“When we get to live our purpose, when we get to align our being with our doing, we have inner peace. And when more of us do it, we have world peace.”
He warned that artificial intelligence is accelerating change at unprecedented speed, forcing humanity to face its unconscious patterns.
“Artificial intelligence… is mirroring who we are in our constructs of our unconscious behaviors at mass and at scale. It is going to be scaling us off a cliff or waking us up.”
Highlighting the limits of outdated economic models, Ford urged a shift from measuring output to measuring purpose.
“GDP was great post–World War II. Lovely. But guess what? It’s broken. It needs an upgrade. I’m calling to GDPurpose™, where we bring purpose in as the highest value of currency.”
Affirming that humanity already possesses the solutions it needs, he underlined the importance of empowerment and amplification.
“We have all the world solutions we need. They just need to be discovered, empowered, and amplified. That’s the work we’re doing at Conscious Capital Foundation. Come join us.”
